About us

Starling provides easy to use software for manufacturers to automate their processes. Our software helps companies to increase quality, drive continuous improvement and simplify audit compliance. Starling is designed with the operator in mind, it is simple and highly intuitive. In fact, this is so much the case that our customers rarely require training beyond the trial.

We have grown out of manufacturing so we understand the problems associated with manually controlled work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Maintaining and tracking paperwork to ensure everyone has access to the same version is a time consuming, non-productive and often frustrating task – not to mention the associated risk of non-compliance.

Our software streamlines the whole process of creating electronic work instructions enabling you to go paperless. Starling provides a complete package for managing your work instructions, standard operating procedures and training in one place.

Starling is particularly designed for companies which are audited against standards such as ISO 9001, BRC, IATF 16949, ISO 13485 and AS 9100. These standards require the use of work instructions for quality critical processes.

Why the name Starling?

Have you ever watched a murmuration of Starlings? It is an amazing sight, thousands of birds coming together and moving as if they are a single organism, swooping and diving in unison. Our goal is to help your workforce to move forwards as one, to be working from the same high quality information and improving together. That is why we are called Starling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Platform

Can I include technical drawings and other documents with work instructions?

Yes you can. The facility to upload PDF and image files is included within the software. This means that if your technical drawings can be saved in a supported format (such as PDF and TIFF) then they can be included with the work instructions. This also applies to other documents you may require, such as risk assessments and control plans.

Can I link other software to Starling?

Because Starling runs in a browser links to the work instructions can be made using just a URL.

Does Starling have version control for work instructions?

Yes it does, version control is at the core of Starling. You define who approves your document, once approved you can release it to other users. Starling ensures that basic users can only see the live version.

Particulars

How long is the trial period?

The trial period is 30 days by default, but if you believe you have a valid reason to extend it then get in touch with us.

Are we tied into a long contract?

No, by default we offer a month-to-month contract which you can cancel anytime. You will be billed for the current month and no more.

Can I host Starling on my own servers?

Yes you can. We understand companies have different needs so we offer both our cloud hosted subscription service and an on premise installation. The on premise installation gives you complete control over the infrastructure. Get in touch to find out more.

Implementation

What devices is Starling compatible with?

Starling runs in a browser, as such it will run on any device with a modern web browser. If you opt for the on premise solution the Starling server must run on either a Windows or Linux server

I have hundreds of work instructions, how can I move these across to Starling?

We understand that migrating to a new system can be a costly experience, but we also understand that running two systems in parallel, such as paper and digital, can lead to mistakes. With Starling you can upload existing work instructions as PDF documents so that you can quickly get all of the information in one place.

Can I customise Starling?

There are a number of customisations available within Starling, with more customisations in pipeline. If there are areas that you would like to customise then get in touch.
